Weekend on Mission

Join us on Saturday, October 12 as we come together as a church to be On Mission to our neighbors. We will have two different opportunities: Serving our Neighbors and Reaching our Neighbors.

SERVING OUR NEIGHBORS

One way for us to reach our neighbors is through various mercy ministries.

Clothes Closet

• 50 volunteers
• Clothes Closet is a ministry of Hickory Grove Baptist Church seeking to assist those in need of clothing, shoes, and other apparel. Volunteers will be sorting and hanging clothing donations on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings and working the shopping event on Saturday. The volunteer opportunities will take place in the Harris Campus Family Life Center. All ages are welcome to volunteer. 

Car Care

• 10 volunteers
• Car Care is a ministry of Hickory Grove Baptist Church that provides routine oil changes for single women and widows. Volunteers are needed to administer oil changes in the Harris Campus handicap parking lot from 9am-12pm. Volunteers must be 16 (with a parent volunteer) or older.

Queen City Pregnancy Resource Center 

• 10 volunteers 
• Queen City Pregnancy Resource Center is a ministry to women facing unplanned pregnancies that partners with the local church to serve her family, save her child, and share the Gospel. Volunteers are needed to spread mulch and pine straw in the beds surrounding the facility, as well as preparing diaper bundles for their clients. Volunteers must be college age or older. 

Gate Pregnancy Resource Center  

• 15 volunteers
• Gate Pregnancy Resource Center is a Gospel-centered organization whose mission is to minister to the needs of those facing difficult pregnancy decisions by providing hope, help, and healing. Volunteers are needed to assist Gate with moving storage bins from their Harrisburg location to an off-site storge facility. Volunteers need to be able to lift 15-20 pounds. 

present age ministries

• 15-20 volunteers
• Present Age Ministries is a Christian organization committed to combating the sexual abuse, exploitation and trafficking of teen girls. They equip communities to identify at-risk teen girls through prevention and awareness education and to support survivors through holistic, individualized care.
• Present Age is opening a thrift store near downtown Concord on November 1. Hickory Grove is partnering with them during "Weekend on Mission" to complete tasks needed for a successful opening such as sorting/hanging clothing donations, clothing rack assembly, etc. 

outdoor project

• 5-6 volunteers
• Hickory Grove will be helping one of our widows to clean her yard from heavy debris. 

CMPD COLLECTION

• Hickory Grove is partnering with CMPD during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, collecting basic items needed as they enter shelters and begin life outside of their previous situations.
• Collection boxes will be located in the Harris Campus and Mallard Creek Campus Worship Center lobbies on October 13 & 20. We will be collecting:
  • Unscented body lotion (full-sized)
  • Unscented bar soap (full-sized)
  • Shampoo and Conditioner (full-sized)
  • Shaving gel
  • Deodorant
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste (full-sized)

REACHING OUR NEIGHBORS

Another way that we can reach our neighbors is by going into neighborhoods to share the Gospel and information about Hickory Grove. We will use this as a time to share information for our upcoming Family Trunk-or-Treat. Prior to this event, we will hold a training rally at both campuses.
