Guatemala 2024 - Misision Recap
Our Guatemala Mission Team had a great time serving with World Reach Missions! Throughout their trip, they served in Guatemala City doing street ministry and in rural villages hosting children's programs and women's Bible studies! To see a short recap of every day of ministry, see below.
DAY 1 - SUNDAY
On Sunday, our team participated in a worship service at Iglesia Evangelica Monte Sion in Xepalama. This is a rural evangelical church, the only evangelical church in the area. During their time in Xepalama, our team held a children's program with songs and puppets and shared their testimonies.
DAY 2 - MONDAY
On Monday, our team served in Giuseppe's School, a private school in Guatemala City. This school is different from other private schools, as it is filled with children from the street. Giuseppe invites students to participate in this K-12 school from the poorest community in Guatemala City. Part of this school is career training, preparing them to provide for themselves off the street as they enter adulthood.
That evening, our team was able to participate in street ministry in Guatemala City. During this street ministry, they visited previous students from the school while also passing out food. Ginger Graham thinks fondly about this time doing street ministry, saying, "The love he has for those students is clear, and they know he loves him."
DAY 3 - TUESDAY
On Tuesday, our team served alongside Dr. Erik Estrada, a local pastor and medical doctor who leads medical clinics all over Guatemala. Our team was able to visit one of his clinic sites, which is located at the base of Fuego Volcano. While they visited the village, they led another children's program at El Zapote.
That afternoon, they traveled to Palin. Due to the eruption of Fuego Volcano in 2018, this village is difficult to access. Due to the eruption's lava flows, the surrounding area's topography has changed significantly, cutting off communities from the rest of the country. Some of these communities, including Palin, are only accessible by motorcycles, ATVs, and SUVs with four-wheel drive.
Once arriving in Palin, our team was able to participate in an afterschool program with Dr. Estrada while also helping lead a women's bible study. During this Bible study, Willene taught these ladies how to read their bibles and key passages and look up passages in their Bible. Nichole Taylor said, "This has been my prayer since we got home - that these ladies would continue to read and love their Bibles."
DAY 5 - THURSDAY
On the last day of ministry in Guatemala, our team served in Casita Benjamin - an innercity preschool. This preschool serves the poorest of Guatemala City. This preschool serves the students and the parents by providing a place for these children to go and teaching the parents and kids how to care for themselves. At Casita Benjamin, our team passed out quits from Wrapped in Love Quilting Ministry and dolls from Dolls on Mission.
The Guatemala team thanks you for your support, whether financially, through prayer, or participation in Wrapped in Love and Dolls on Mission. They ask that you continue to pray for Bobby and Willene Byrd and World Reach Missions as they continue to invest in the people of Guatemala! Pray for Giuseppe as he continues to serve the people of Guatemala City through his school and street ministry. Pray for Dr. Erik Estrada as he meets people's physical and spiritual needs through the medical clinics. Pray for perseverance for each of these ministries and their leaders. Pray that the hearts of the Guatemalans will continue to be open to the Gospel. Pray for perseverance for each of these ministries and their leaders.
