Early American Baptists drafted the New Hampshire Baptist Confession to clarify doctrinal boundaries in the face of radical fringe positions on either side of the sovereignty of God and responsibility of man discussion.
The Nicene Creed is one of the earliest theological statements about the Trinity and came as response to Arianism, an ancient heresy that rejected the eternality of the son.
The Chalcedonian Creed came from the Fourth Ecumenical Council in 451 AD, in part as a response to heretical positions regarding the nature of Christ.
